My Healer

My Healer – Matt. 15: 21-28

“Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.
And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Then came she and worshiped him, saying, Lord, help me.
But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.
And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.
Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.”

Jesus is on his way out of the Coasts of Tyre & Sidon. A woman from Canaan came out of the same coasts.

The Canaanites were notorious for their Orgies & other perverted forms of worship. The Israelites had to fight a constant battle to avoid the decay that came from the dangerous idolatry of Canaan.

This woman cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, Oh Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.

Let’s note:
1. She cried unto him
2. She requested mercy (she had a need)
3. She recognized who he was
4. She made her request known

But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, send her away; for she crieth after us.

Let’s note:
1. Jesus didn’t answer
2. However his disciples came and asked Jesus to send her away, for she is calling aloud for them & probably making a scene by her cries.

But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

Let’s note:

Jesus finally answers and he says to her he is not sent but unto the lost sheep of Israel. He was saying in essence I am sent to the Jews, my chosen people of Israel who are still captive to sin and needs a deliverer and savior. Gentiles are basically not my primary concern or purpose for being sent.

Then came she and worshiped him, saying, Lord, help me.

Despite he revealed his purpose for being there, she pursued him further by declaring he is Lord again in worship unto him and asking for help. This woman knew if she was to get any results it would come from him. She understood he was LORD and deserving of worship from Jew or Gentile.

But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.

Again Jesus challenges her faith by presenting what he said before in a light that reflects where she stands in comparison to the children of Israel. Children are a seed, an inheritance and promise. Parents carry the same DNA as their offspring. There is a personal responsibility of parents to their offspring than to a child of another father.

Jesus is asking should I give unto you what my own whom I am sent too desperately needs as well. A dog may be mans best friend but the child is priority over the dog to get food first. It would not be appropriate to feed the dog and then tend to the hungry child after.

And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.

This lady still presses on. She fully agrees with Jesus, yet, she understood that even the dog have a master as well and even the leftovers or bits that fall still serves it’s purpose and is worthy of eating still by the dog. The dog may not have been priority or the one being taken care of but there is still a chance he might taste and part take thereof and it be sufficient for him/her.

Healing is the children’s bread. Jesus was saying if any healing needed to take place the children of Israel was to receive first/be of a higher priority. Healing was theirs whether it was physical, mental, spiritual or what ever form it was.

Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

Jesus was saying woman your conviction of the truth of who I am as Lord of all is Great. To know and stand on the fact that GOD exists and cares about her no matter how the least she might appear to be in his house. She knew she was still deserving of something even if it was just a crumb that wasn’t intended originally for her. She had great Faith that even didn’t wavered at all. She kept Jesus engaged until she got her breakthrough. Her daughter was made whole that very hour. Wow!

I may not be a Jew, but even Gentiles who are looking to other “Gods” to satisfy their cravings and hearts desire can repent, believe on Jesus and still receive the blessings of the children of Israel. You may say I don’t worship an idol in terms of a structure or statue; however anything that you hold too tightly over your love for GOD is an idol. We still have a place in the house of GOD. Thank GOD that Jesus died for the sins of the World the Jews and the Gentiles. Now there is no difference in Jesus Christ, we are all the same and of the same father. Amen.
